Winter car tire test

Winter tire or snow tire?

Winter tires, also incorrectly called snow tires, offer greater safety in cold weather. Summer tires do not provide sufficient adhesion during cold spells and their structure does not allow them to grip in snow, ice or mud.
Winter tires are indicated by a snowflake on the tire wall. The markings "M + S" and 3PMSF on certain tires are also a guarantee of effectiveness on snowy ground.

When should you fit winter tires?

Winter tires should be fitted as soon as the temperature falls to seven degrees. Due to its composition, the rubber on snow tires remains supple at low temperatures and provides much better adhesion. The structure of the winter tire is designed to improve vehicle traction, particularly in snow. The structure comprises longitudinal and transverse grooves which are larger than those on normal tires. The amount of rubber remaining on a winter tire must be at least 4 mm. Adhesion properties are greatly reduced on snow if the depth is less than this. Which winter tire should you buy? The winter tires below have been tested and rated by Pneus Online customers.
